Dear ,
We want to let you know this morning that Eileen will continue to be attending to her family and particularly her mother. We know many of you are facing very challenging circumstances personal, communal, and political, as well as millions without power, internet, and other utilities on this Monday morning. So let us pray for each other. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Thank you for keeping Eileen and her family in your thoughts and prayers. We are also holding a
Christ-light for you ... all who lead the church, teach new ministers, support leaders, and live your vocations within your communities across multiple time zones and in many different countries. 🕯️
In yet
another week, we continue to see and hear devastating news. Friends and colleagues are on the front lines in Minnesota, protesting, praying, resisting. We lament the brutality and injustice, the senseless oppression and taking of lives. Back in 2020, we faced overwhelming loss and grief and numerous crises. Once again, each day seems to present a new crisis, and the loss and grief can take a high toll. I want to offer this 3MMM episode from 2020: Organize, Lament, Rest. It's an interview with Rev. Dr. Judy Cummings where she guides us through a template for responding to crises that includes pastoral organizing, deep lament, and sabbath rest. 🕊️
Preaching is also difficult and challenging in these days filled with public crises (especially in the U.S. and also in many places around the globe). Here's an episode offering encouragement and support as you strive to offer a word of hope, lament, or challenge to your people. ⛪
Finally, here is some gathered wisdom for leading in times of
crisis. We can't fix everything, and it isn't our job to do that. We can take care of ourselves and our people and continue the work together in ways that are life-giving. 💟
Grace and peace,
Laura Edgar
