The time is almost here! Log on in 15 minutes!
If this is
your first time coming to the half-day writing retreat, and you’re thinking about not logging in — because you just don’t know what you’re going to write about — wait a minute! We’ve got you covered! Read on...
For those of you coming to the retreat who already
have a writing idea, story, or project in mind, that’s great! You can certainly keep going with your plan!
If, however, you’re a first time writer and you’re still trying to figure out what it is you need to write about, want to write about, feel called
to write about, we have some questions to help you get started. You can use the following writing prompts in each POM to get down your best thoughts. They don’t need to be pretty or perfect or grammatically correct! They just need to be ideas on paper (or screen)! Freewriting is messy. Part of the process of writing is to get ideas down, and then later you can go back to revise them, clean them up, and get them ready to share. Some of the things you write may never be shared. They’re only for
you. Other parts of what you write might turn into publications.
Here are 5 Prompts to help you get your writing engine running! To open your heart to what you need to say…
Prompt #1 — What idea or story or piece of wisdom has been rolling around in my head and in my heart for so
long and I want to be sure I write about it someday? How can I go ahead and put words to it today?
Prompt #2 — What am I called to write? What is God or my higher power asking me to address with writing (and maybe speaking and preaching and presenting)?
Prompt #3 — When I think of my ancestors and a future generations, what do I need to write for their sake?
Prompt #4 — Where is my spirit feeling led today? What is most urgent in the world or in my heart that needs my attention and words?
Prompt #5 — Who do I most want to write for and why is it important to write for them? (It might be God, yourself, a beloved, a community, or anyone else; trust the Spirit and your heart to lead you.)
If you follow these prompts you will leave today's retreat with plenty of writing to come back to, to edit, and to revise for publication if that is your hope. You will also have answered important questions for yourself!
See you in just 15 minutes!
