The plans for this retreat have been bubbling in me for a while. I've seen the dynamic for women of color - pastors, professors, and authors - who love the process of The Writing Table. Yet, when they find themselves in a Zoom room with mostly white faces and voices, they know how much extra energy it takes to be present, which they would rather expend on the writing itself. 

So, I've been envisioning a new writing space. 

This half-day, online writing retreat is especially for women of color. I hope you will join me and Dr. Charisse Gillett, president of Lexington Theological Seminary for this special time of writing. 

She and I have been dreaming together about offering support to women of color for their writing projects. We both want to get more women's voices into print and publication! So she and I agreed to work on this initiative together. We want to make space and offer time for writing. We hope that people will take a risk on their own writing process, and we hope this partnership and support will contribute to your flourishing as a writer.

People who attend The Writing Table mini retreats work on many different kinds of projects: sermons, books, vlogs, academic articles, teaching plans and evaluations, difficult emails, and personal journals among other things. One of the beauties of The Writing Table is you are never required to share what you are writing, unless you desire to share it. Instead, we create a carefully tended circle of protection for your writing. And if people desire to share what they're working on, it's always welcome! Never required.

There is no better time than now to commit to your writing. Through planning, focused writing time, and supportive coaching, all alongside other women writing, you can get on the pathway to strengthening your writing habits and getting your ideas and stories published.

• Reminders of "rules for writing" to help you stay on track

• A meaningful and humane schedule for the retreat using POMs, so you finish feeling confident, refreshed, and accomplished

• A place on Zoom for the retreat

As I like to remind everyone: writing is a practice that must be done alone, yet it is best done in community.
