Dear, ,
This morning, I’m sharing a podcast with you that tells a story from a year ago in my life. From Good Friday through the end of last summer 2024, I was in a long process of extricating my parents from a multi-layered crisis. I've spoken with a number of you lately in different settings, and I've heard stories about your care for aging parents and often
teenagers and young adults at the same time. It's a lot.
The work of giving care and support to extended family is both beautiful and sometimes unspeakably hard. Layers of grief are unique in each
situation, in your particular family or in mine. Yet there is a universality and unavoidability of loss, because humans don’t live forever. And there are so many smaller losses even along the way.
In the
podcast, I talk about three findings: pastoral treasure, heart treasure, and future treasure. I learned a few valuable thing from this work of unearthing treasures. What I learned is probably the real treasure. I hope you’ll give it a listen. And I hope in it you will feel seen and know that you’re not facing your own family griefs, transitions, or crises alone. I'd love to know what lessons you are learning!
