What do you know firsthand about “conflicted callings”? Where does conflict between or within your callings tug you in more than one direction? This week in Part III of my conversation with Dr. Bonnie Miller-McLemore we continue talking about her new book Follow Your Bliss and Other Lies about Calling. 

In this episode, we talk about the multiple vocations any person carries, and how different demands and even conflicted values create tension. For instance, I personally have callings to my family, to research and teaching, to ministry and writing, and to prayer and love. And while there are many overlaps and resonances in my callings, sometimes they are in conflict with each other. 

There are some hard realities in this week's topic. It took more effort than usual to put it altogether. Writing about conflict takes extra care. So I hope you will find something to inspire, provoke, or at least give you more to think about in relation to "conflicted callings."

How are you practicing Lent? 

The season of Lent is here, ! I am so curious about how you are practicing? I appreciated hearing from folks this season who just hit reply to my email and shared how they are investing their spiritual energy in this season! Please feel free to do the same!

We have suggestions for Lenten practices that help you respond to challenges of our present times with spiritual practice and spiritual action. Along with each practice, you will find ideas and resources to help you get started.

1. Pray for hungry children and contribute to feeding them.
2. Protest the foreclosure of DEI programs and change your spending habits
3. Advocate for immigrants and know your rights
4. Support LGBTQIA+ youth and adults and learn bystander training
5. Discern your vocation and explore your calling
