Dear ,
How was your long weekend (in the US)? It was very different for me than any other year. One thing that landed differently is that the day of "American Thanksgiving" was very quiet. We shifted our family gathering to Friday. So I ended up writing something unplanned on Thursday. It is a topic about which I've been discouraged to write or speak. But that discouragement is now officially in the past. I took a risk. You may have things to say about what I've written. Please! Send them.
How are you taking appropriate and challenging risks with what you've learned and how you lead this Advent season? This series of Advent podcasts explore the vulnerability and risk of the season.
The callings in our lives nearly always involve risk. . . . Speaking of callings, before returning
home from San Diego a few days ago, I interviewed my friend and doctoral dissertation advisor, Bonnie Miller-Mclemore. We talked about her new book, Follow Your Bliss and Other Lies about Calling. This is a book that does so much to help us think about the complexity and trouble of vocation. It doesn't take away the goodness or usefulness of the concept. Bonnie's exploration helps us see and live our callings by acknowledging the risks and facing them more honestly! We'll be sharing those interviews starting in January.
We also have more episodes with Bruce Reyes-Chow coming
soon! He will be a good companion as we make our way through Advent.
Blessings and peace for a good week ahead. I'm eager to connect with you and will be praying for you as you lead, love, grieve, and find
time to collect yourself this season.
Warmly,
Eileen
