How can we name and honor the volunteers, ? During this clergy appreciation month, I want to take time for appreciating ministry volunteers. Let’s also give thanks for the volunteer clergy who serve without pay. Let us offer gratitude for the variety of Christian vocations to which God
calls people. In the United States, the majority of churches have fewer than 100 members. Many of the day-to-day operations, pastoral care, administration, hospitality, and community building depends largely on unpaid laborers. Many Immigrant churches and historic Black churches run entirely on the volunteer labor. This October of clergy
appreciation, I want to turn our attention to giving thanks and expressing appreciation for these volunteer ministers.

How can you attend to your Vocational grief?
I want to encourage you to honor your vocational grief. Whatever your calling in life is – teaching, parenting, ministry, farming, praying, creating art, sports, healthcare, social work, politics, writing, singing, building, shipping, repairing, cooking – there are losses and hidden demands that people beyond your world do not know about. It is real and you can talk about it. I hope you will consider ways to acknowledge and honor your griefs. On All Saints Day, we
will have a gathering to do just that. Join us? Find out more and sign up here:
