Episode 202: Erin's Favorite Things
Summer time can be very busy for people who have small children at home. 3MMM Team Member Erin Robinson Hall
shares this week about how podcasts, treats and an interesting study are all things she enjoys this summer.
We are delighted to gather with Baptists at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship's General Assembly next week. One highlight is the Dr. Emmanuel McCall Racial Justice Trailblazer Luncheon. You don't want to miss hearing from Dr. Otis Moss III and celebrating the 2023 award recipients. We have a few seats available at Eileen's table, so we are giving them away.
To enter: simply reply to this email here, and tell us how this lunch would inspire your #pastoralimagination.
Baptists, Football and Women Who Changed the Game
In response to actions taken at the Southern Baptist Convention meeting last week to further limits women’s pastoral leadership in churches, I wrote a piece for Baptist News Global: “Baptists, football and women who changed the game.”
I take up a metaphor from my book Anatomy of a Schism to show how the Southern Baptists fight over issues related to women
as if they were a political football.
"This year’s agenda for the SBC annual meeting in New Orleans was a perfect set-up for another contest over women. They squared off for a battle over churches that have women serving as pastors and how to address the clergy abuse crisis in
which the majority of survivors are women. The SBC gathered at the convention center. But they should have met at the Superdome.”
Appreciation for Colleagues Some of the best and most prolific pastoral theologians I know have been featured in recent episodes. Have a look at the wisdom they offer.
