This week's advice for writers from Robert Boice is Rule No. 4: "Stop, before diminishing returns set in." This rule helps explain why we use the pomodoro technique at the Writing
Table. Our sessions are brief, and we stop two different times in the hour. Because when we push past that time frame, our brain's ability to focus and function at top capacity starts to flag.
By stopping to reset our intention and focus, we actually focus better and probably write more. We can also use the STOP rule to keep us out of rabbit holes, or we can choose separate tasks for each pom. Boice discovered in 30 years of research with academic writers stopping is as important and starting to sustain a solid and sustainable writing habit. We follow
this advice at the Writing Table.
I look forward to seeing you this week!
Warmly,
Eileen
